Vero Beach Wildlife Photographer Mark Smith Receives International Award at Dubai Ceremony
Florida-based bird photographer and filmmaker honored alongside legendary photographer Rick Smolan at the “Oscars of Photography”
VERO BEACH, FL — Wildlife photographer and filmmaker Mark Smith has been awarded the Photography Content Creator Award at the 14th annual Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) ceremony, held November 11, 2025 at the Museum of the Future in Dubai.
Smith, known for his breathtaking slow-motion wildlife footage and emotionally resonant bird photography, was recognized for building a global audience of millions through his work documenting raptors including ospreys, bald eagles, hawks and owls. His videos have accumulated more than 2 billion views across digital platforms, with 1.8 million YouTube subscribers and 2.2 million Instagram followers.
The HIPA awards, often called the “Oscars of Photography” by international experts, recognized Smith alongside Rick Smolan, the acclaimed photographer behind the iconic “A Day in the Life” book series, who received the Photography Appreciation Award for lifetime achievement.
In addition to receiving the award, Smith delivered a keynote presentation at the ceremony.
“Receiving this award has helped me fully understand the power of photography, videography and the natural world,” said Smith. “Its ability to bridge great distances, break cultural barriers and how it translates into a universal language every single human being can understand.”
Smith’s work has been featured by the National Audubon Society, My Modern Met, Fstoppers, and the National Wildlife Federation. He is also a bestselling author, with titles including “Osprey: The Glorious Pursuit of Unbridled Determination.” His upcoming book, “The Spirit of Birds,” is currently in development.
